Dark Ethnography is for 4 flashlight operators and cello, and is written for Ensemble Vortex. In the work, battery controlled flashlights double as MIDI controllers, processing and triggering sounds, as well as creating a bond between light, sound, and physical gesture that is explored throughout the course of the piece. These instruments are used to cast light on a dark past, and allude to questionable realities.
